Matthew T. Ranson, M.D., M.S., is a top-ranked Interventional Pain Medicine Physician providing state-of-the-art and compassionate care for patients all over the United States.   • Dr. Ranson has a unique set of skills and experience that help many patients avoid more invasive surgeries and return to a much higher level of physical activity.
  • Dr. Ranson was raised by scholars in a blue-collar setting which stimulated his intellect and helped to develop resilience.

  • Dr. Ranson participated in a molecular science Ph.D. program before going to medical school, which taught him the art of critical thinking and gave him a deeper understanding of the science of medicine as well as exciting new fields such as regenerative medicine.

  • Before his residency program in anesthesiology at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Dr. Ranson began his residency training in surgery at Atlanta Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma center. He specifically chose that hospital due to the high volume of trauma, vascular, and plastic surgery cases. Dr. Ranson’s residency program occurred during a time when residency work hours were not limited by work hour restrictions, he was almost living at the hospital and getting only a couple of hours of sleep over many days. The combination of working many hours and the sheer volume of complex surgical cases that came to Atlanta Medical Center provided Dr. Ranson with a significantly greater amount of experience compared to what is typical in many other residency programs.

  • Dr. Ranson completed his Interventional Pain Medicine fellowship program at the highly acclaimed Duke University, which is an ACGME accredited fellowship program. This experience provided Dr. Ranson with the most advanced fellowship experience available.

  • Dr. Ranson is a loving father and caring son to elderly parents, which has nourished his compassion and empathy for his patients.

  • Dr. Ranson has worked alongside some of the most internationally respected and prominent interventional pain physicians, spine surgeons, and scientists early in his career, allowing him to gain valuable knowledge and experience.
  • Dr. Ranson has been part of advancing the field of pain medicine through his active participation in many medical research studies and frequently teaches advanced techniques to other physicians.
  • Dr. Ranson is one of the founding members of ASPN (American Society of Pain & Neuroscience), an invitational membership society of the most advanced, esteemed members of the Interventional Pain Medicine community.

Leila Micklos, MS, FNP-BC

Advanced Practitioner

Leila has over 25 years of patient care experience. After starting her career as a registered nurse at Scottsdale Healthcare in both PACU and interventional procedures, she became a family nurse practitioner in 2010, graduating from Grand Canyon University. She has dedicated her professional career to the field of compassionate and comprehensive pain management in both clinical and administrative roles. She is nationally board-certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Leila is certified in both cosmetic and therapeutic Botox and is skilled in a variety of intra-articular joint injections, peripheral nerve blocks, trigger point injection therapy and headache management.

During her professional administrative roles, she has served with the Arizona State Board of Nursing’s Advanced Practice Committee, and the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, whose goals are professional and public safety. Leila has served as an expert witness for medical malpractice cases.

Throughout the years, Leila has been honored to precept registered nurse and nurse practitioner students from various universities.

In her free time, Leila enjoys Arizona’s hiking trails, boating, paddleboarding, live music, trivia nights and cherished time with her family.
